5k: ran all da way

Remember how I said I was going to do a 5k except I wasn't sure I could actually do it?

It's over people, and I ran the whole thing! I ran with Rose, and we totally killed it. We finished in 29:30.

Oh, hi

Spent the better part of the day looking for bee jewelry...

Etsy

My favorite at the moment, but I like that the next one has an XXS option because I have really small wrists and I can't stand bracelets that slide down my arm.

My family has been calling me "bee" since I was born because my dad said I looked like a bundle bee after the nurses wrapped me up. I saw a bee bracelet on Instagram today and I decided I cannot live without a bee bracelet.

Of course I can't make a decision because I like to buy things, but I don't like to spend money. I'm going to sleep on it and decide tomorrow.

Also, do you like how I failed to mention that I haven't blogged in a month? I'm in a writing rut.

Bee good!

LMOC

My brother is teaching me how to not be such an LMOC anymore.

LMOC: little man on campus. Aka not cool. (Pronounced like Elle-mock)

First step is to stop tweeting about being an LMOC.

Running is fun?

Training for a 5K...again.

My roommate is planning one for her capstone class and I really want to be able to run it. I'm doing the couch to 5K program and it's more manageable than I thought.

I did have a really hard time setting a pace and breathing at first. I was trying to do that thing where you take a breath for every three steps, but I thought my heart was going to explode so now I don't even think about breathing and have slowed down so much that an onlooker may confuse it for fast walking.

The worst part of working out for me is walking to the gym. I was able to run outside the past two Sundays and that was great, but our neighborhood is still really snowy and that sounds like absolutely no fun. And neither does walking to the gym and changing out of rain boots and being in public.

We drove yesterday and I was totally dreading the intervals, but I felt really good after and was able to justify my late night eating.

Now that I have put this on my blog, I really have to do it because that would be embarrassing if I didn't since I just told the internet.

I think if I actually do this 5K, I am going to buy myself this sweatshirt:

Although, I'd prefer to get this one if they ever get it back in stock:

I would normally never ever spend that much on a sweatshirt, but if I can complete a 5K I will get it for myself because that is something I would normally never ever do and it would be a huge accomplishment for me. I've also wanted this sweatshirt for forever.

Maybe I should put a dollar in my "Happy Camper" sweatshirt fund every time I run? Then I would have...$18.

Ok I'm still on my couch and feeling like the worst person ever because this 101-year-old just ran his last marathon.

The Newsroom

I just finished season one of HBO’s The Newsroom yesterday on our snow day. You guys, it’s the best show ever. I’m having withdrawals. Luckily, I’m reading All The President’s Men for one of my classes, so I can get my fix of kick-ass journalists for a few more days.

I am really very cool.

I thought this scene was hilarious and I’ve been watching it over and over again wishing I could be that honest and poignant.

I actually do like Sex and the City and realize it's just a TV show, but I've totally questioned the reality of the characters and their lifestyles. I would never, ever spend what they spend on a pair of shoes. (And half of the time I don't even think they are that great!) Like what typical woman in New York could afford to?

One idea from the show I can get behind is having fancy brunch once a week. I'd rather save my money for brunch.

Food>shoes. And I love shoes.

Warning: this video contains the "F" word, but I couldn't find a clip that didn't have it. If you skip to :11, you should miss it.

OMG

I just made a tight tight tight budget, but I think I'm going to have to find some wiggle room for this. (With a "C" obviously)

It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

Few material things make me happier than mini notebooks. And you cannot imagine my excitement when they come in pink.

New York on the brain...

The wind blows you east...

"Your little boat goes west and you congratulate yourself, 'What a navigator I am!' and then the wind blows you east."
-Behind the Beautiful Forevers, Katherine Boo

Here's my brother on a boat.
I came across this quote in one of my readings for the week. I actually love school this semester. I just feel inspired and cheesy all the time.

P.S. Laptop was in the shop, so I was posting from my phone and did not realize how gigantic my photos were showing up on here. My apologies.

Blondies

I saw a recipe for Oreo peanut butter blondies on a blog I found this weekend. Naturally I haven't stopped thinking about them since and tonight I did something about it.
I made classic blondies to recover from my awful dinner. I made eggplant parm and it was gross. The sauce I made was good and so was the cheese (when is cheese ever bad?) but the eggplant tasted like earth.
I've had really good experiences cooking for myself so far, so I'm ok with having a dish or two not turn out great. I'm fortunate to have other things to eat (like blondies).
One of my goals for February is to try a new thing each week. Looks like I'll have to spend a bunch of time on Pinterest.

Trying new things

I tried quinoa for the first time for dinner last night and finished the rest off for lunch today. I will definitely be making it again. It's one of the nicest things to come home for lunch in the middle of the day. I'm an avid lunch bringer and last semester I brought it almost every day. Now my schedule allows me to come home a couple days a week. And maybe take an after lunch nap...

Happy Second Day of School

Taco soup

My mom's taco soup made meatless Monday impossible. I'm doing it next week, I swear.

Sunday, lovely Sunday

I spent my last Sunday at home in the kitchen with my dad. He gave me a cooking class for Christmas and we recreated the dishes.
(The class was awesome. The food was great and I got to hang out with fellow food lovers- always a good time!)

Our menu:

Tomato and artichoke soup with asiago croutons: This is the perfect winter soup. If I liked wine, I bet it would be good with something like this. Also, I went heavy on the croutons and I'm not sorry. I also ate the equivalent of 3 pieces of bread while making them.  Gym tomorrow?

Pork tenderloin with a mango bourbon glaze: I'm not a huge pork fan, but I actually really liked this. It was sweet, but also savory. My dad did all the work on this one. We also have a ton of leftover bourbon. I'm selling it for $10.

Warm chocolate pudding cake with Kahlau whipped cream: If you're ever feeling sad, or mad or happy or tired or if it's raining or Monday or you're having any feelings at all, I would recommend just eating the whipped cream straight.

P.S. I had some white wine with dinner. I hated it. It did make me look cool and sophisticated though.

Crying from cutting up onions. My mom told me to stick two matches in my mouth. It actually worked.

Busty

Buster had to have surgery. He is not amused by the cone.
