Lies

Arrived today!

Bonjour!

The other night my mom was watching Eat. Pray. Love. (which I'm in the middle of reading...) and it made me nostalgic for France. Consequently, I had a dream about my France trip and woke up thinking about it, and then I walked into my family room to find Giada Delaurentis making crepes, which of course sent me deeper into my France nostalgia. (Side note- while in Paris, we made a few trips to a petite supermarket near our hotel and I cannot for the life of me remember what is was. It was something very French and I recall saying it over and over again because it sounded so cool. Oy vey.) Anyway, the next day before I headed into a very long day at work (front desk at a pool on memorial day, you can imagine...) my family made crepes! My mom took a crepes class a long time ago, so we dug out the recipe and said, "Bon Appetite!" I put Marscapone and strawberries in mine. My parents experimented with peach preserves and grape jelly. Of course we added a little powered sugar.

Some recipes instruct the chef to roll the crepe, but the crepes I had in France were folded similar to a quesadilla (which made me love them more)

Au revoir!

P.S. I finally found the name of the store: Monoprix! How adorably French is that?
P.P.S. This posts makes me wish I had kept up on my French. Maybe I'll break out my copy of Le Petit Prince. We'll see....

All Grown Up

At the mall near my house, there is a curfew on Friday and Saturday nights for kids under 16. They must be with a parent. I was walking into a store right behind a teenage couple on Friday afternoon and the security guard stopped them. I kept walking and she said, "You too, let me see some ID." I handed her my ID and said, "I'm actually 19." She looked at my ID and found much to her surprise that I was 19 and sent me on my way. I'm going to be 20 in August and was just mistaken for a 15 year-old. Something needs to change. My goal this summer is to eliminate anything from my wardrobe that makes me look 15. Or really anything that makes me look young. I suppose I should stop sporting so much Hello Kitty too. I'd love any suggestions. My hope is that by the time I turn 20, I might actually look 20.

I'm going to take some cues from Reese because she's little like me and doesn't look like she just passed the driving test. Maybe it's the bangs?

and Jen because her style is simple and sophisticated and she looks good in everything.

and Gwen because she's so cute. Should I get a bob like her?

Now accepting suggestions.

Caren

Summer Essentials

It's finally warmed up and starting to feel like summer (I have the uneven tan to prove it....) and I thought I'd share with you some of the things I love for summer.

My roommate uses sunglasses as headbands. So practical.

A good read for lounging by the pool or beach. I recommend Chelsea Handler's books, they are hysterical.

I am desperately trying to find nude wedges! Unfortunately, I am super picky (and...frugal...) and have not found a pair I love yet.

J Crew flip flops. The are the most comfortable flip flops ever. Seriously, I walked around France in them for 14 days straight and still wear them.

A sun hat. I used to make fun of my mom for wearing these, but I actually love them now.

Watermelon. Want it. Need it. Gotta have it.

Stay cool,

Hello

I promise to be better about carenpants this summer! I am getting a memory card for my camera, so I will be able to upload pictures too. School is over thank goodness. The first few days of summer, I unpacked and cleaned like a madwoman and now I have nothing to do until June 6th and I don't know what to do with myself. I am picking up a few shifts here and there before my other summer work starts, but I feel like I should be doing something else. Like running. Claire and I are doing a 10K in October! Uh oh, now that I've put this on my blog, I really have to do it. A friend from work recommended a program called Couch to 10K (the program is also available for other races) and it actually looks doable. I will (maybe?) be posting my progress on here!
Tomorrow starts day one. Only 22 more weeks!
P.S. We get to wear costumes for the 10K!

Mary, Mary, Mary

On the beach!
Happy Mother's Day to my fantastic momma! She's quite a character, folks. I'm so glad I inherited her sense of humor. She's not shy about how humorous she is either. She's been known to "slay" herself and say "hahahahahahahahahhaha" about her own jokes. Squirrels harass her, mosquitoes love her. She's also a great singer. She's gorgeous and a hard worker and she cracks me up. Thank goodness she has texting so we can talk every day, even though her phone gets stuck on the dreaded T9 all the time and her texts don't make sense. She's so supportive of everything and always makes me feel better. Often I get myself worked up about being a "B" student, which she assures me is something to be proud of and I can always count on her to send me an "exams are stupid" text to make me feel better. I can't wait to get to home and watch all our shows together this summer. Love ya girl!

Happy Birthday Audrey!

Today would have been Audrey Hepburn's 84 birthday! I love Audrey Hepburn and I have been her for Halloween on multiple occasions and sometimes I just dress up like her for funsies. Anyway, she's fabulous. I have two Breakfast at Tiffany's posters hanging in my room right now and I'm watching it right now as a birthday celebration. I love the big sunglasses/pearls/crown/black dress/gloves look. I also like how she calls everyone "darling" and "dear" because that's so classy. I might name one of my kids Audrey. She also has a few good quotes, see below.

For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.

Happy Birthday, Audrey, you my girl

7 Things

I'm just going to stop apologizing for not keeping up with this because I'm busy. As my friend Meghann pointed out, most of my posts are about food and countdowns, two things weighing heavily on my mind right now. Countdowns are on my mind because summer starts in 10 days. Food is on my mind because I'm starving and won't be eating for two hours and I just read Claire's blog and she posted pictures of these adorable cupcakes she made for her boyfriend. They were Nutella (I eat it literally every day) and strawberries. Here's the link, sorry in advance for how hungry this will make you. http://mississippigirlmisplaced.blogspot.com/
Anyway, Claire also gave me a blog award which means I need to post 7 fun facts about me!
1. I've been drinking coffee since when I was a toddler. My grandma would mix a little bit of coffee, milk and sugar and I've been addicted ever since. My parents used to wake my brother and I up for school and bring us coffee every morning and whenever I spent the night at my grandparents they would make us our coffee.
2. I really want a baby pig. They are SO cute and pink. I think they would be very cuddly.
3. I have one brother. He has a lot of hair. He is a soccer player and was just inducted into NHS. He just started driving and that is obvious.
4. The first time and last time I've been on an airplane is when I went to France when I was 17. Nothing like experiencing it for the first time on an international nine hour flight. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
 5. I really like my birthday and so does everyone else because last year I got an out of nowhere surprise party. I'll be 20 on August 9. Oh my goodness.
6. My family calls me "Bee" or "Bee Bee Girl" because when I was born the nurses wrapped me up in a swaddling cloth and my dad said I looked like a "Bundle Bee" instead of a Bumble Bee and the nickname has stuck ever since.
7. I'm a semi vegetarian. I occasionally eat turkey and rarely beef. I mostly eat cheese quesadillas, grilled cheese and pizza as my main sources of protein.
Aww yeah, Aaron Carter just came on my ipod. I want candy.

Carenpants
