The Transition: Dress Edition

I love all of these dresses with flats, boots, or even gladiator sandals (weather permitting!) with a cardigan or jean jacket. The yellow dress is called "The Perfect Summer Dress." I think it actually works well for fall too. It would look great with a navy cardigan and some nude flats.

This is unrelated, but my roommates and I are decorating are going to decorate for Halloween on Sunday. We're going to make Halloween cookies, watch movies and experiment with homemade warm drinks for fall like salted caramel hot chocolate and pumpkin coffee.
I'm also going home this weekend and I can't wait to experience some real fall weather! What are you up to?

The Transition: Shoe Edition

I have under appreciated flats for 20 years, but this is the year I've come to appreciate flats. They come in adorable colors and shapes and are (usually!) a comfortable alternative to heels. They look cute with jeans, skirts, dresses and even shorts. I love the cap toe trend (like the candy corn looking shoe below) and you can't go wrong with cheetah or a neutral. They're perfect for the days you don't want to wear open toe, but it's going to be too warm for boots in a few hours.

The Transition: Shirt Edition

The transition between summer and fall clothing can be a tough one. I'm going to do a series this week on transition your wardrobe from summer to fall.

I love boots and cozy sweaters, but September, and even October weather can be really unpredictable, so I hate to break them out too early. I like to pick light pieces that I can throw a cardigan or a light jacket over for my walk in the morning, but can be worn alone in the afternoon. All of the below would look great with jeans and nude flats, gold sandals or boots, depending on the temperature. Do you have a "go to" transition shirt?

Friday's Fancies: Memorial Day

Happy Friday! This week we are putting together an outfit for the three day weekend. I'm going to a pool party this weekend, so I chose a look that is practical, but still festive.

I always love a simple navy suit and this one would be easy to wear under a dress. It'd look great with a tan, too! The white dress would be lightweight enough for a St. Louis summer without sacrificing any style. I threw in a red necklace to give the look a fun twist and topped it off with simple wedges. Don't forget the shades and the sunscreen!

Have a great holiday weekend! What are your plans?

Friday's Fancies

I'm so late in posting my Friday's Fancies because much like real life date night, I could not decide kind of outfit I wanted to wear. School is also crazy, but what else is new?

Most months of the year, I'm two hours away from my boyfriend, so we're pretty lucky that we get to see each other every few weeks, but I still like to spend some time deciding what to wear when I see him because we always try to do something special. I decided to go with a dressy outfit for dancing and a more casual outfit for dinner or a movie.

Purple and God

1. I thought this purple dress would be so cute for a night of dancing. We found a place downtown that does dinner and dancing on Friday and Saturday nights in St. Louis that we're looking to try this summer.
2. Love this color for spring!
3. My boyfriend is a foot taller, so heels are a must and I love gold.
4. I'd wear these with both outfits.
5. I love this big watch for both looks.
6. I love navy and the simplicity of this top.
7. I live in white shorts in the summer. I like that they are cuffed and longer so I could wear wedges with them.
8. Nude wedges are my go-to shoes all summer, they match everything!
9. Ryan's sister got me necklace sort of like this for Christmas. I couldn't find the exact one, but necklaces like this are great for adding a pop of color to a simple outfit.

What's your ideal date?

Fridays Fancies: Pastels

Friday's Fancies time! This week's theme is "pretty in pastels" and I must say, I had a hard time narrowing down what I wanted to feature. I love spring fashion!

It's currently rainy and gross in Columbia, but I think these yellow pants could definitely cheer me up. I've always had a thing for yellow and need some more of it in my life. Actually, I wouldn't mind adding any of these pieces to my wardrobe.

Flower Power

Time for Friday's Fancies! Even though the flowers are making my allergies awful, I still love flowers!

I used to hate floral print because it reminded me of being a little girl on Easter. Recently, I've seen so many cute floral blouses that are very sophisticated and perfect for spring. I actually bought the blue top from Old Navy on the right and have worn in three times in the two weeks I've had it. Don't worry, I washed it.

Flower Power

I also love love love shoes with flowers on the toe. They are the perfect detail on a flat or sandal. I must say I'm digging the extremely high heel and pattern on the ridiculously expensive Louboutins on the right. I also like flower jewelry to add a little interesting detail to an outfit. Done right, a floral piece can be a perfect spring look.

Lacey Lace

I've seen all sorts of really cute lace shirts lately, but I was never sure if I could pull it off. I tried one on at Target and actually loved it. I had a $50 Visa gift card from my bank, so I got it and I'm so glad!
target.com $17.00
It's more off white than the picture shows, so I put an off white camisole underneath. I wore it with red pants, nude wedges and gold hoops last week for a family dinner at a nicer restaurant. I'm planning to wear it on Easter too with this skirt I snagged at Forever 21 for $19.

$19.80

It's a J Crew look alike and a lot cheaper. I'll pair it with some nude heels and them maybe I will look my age for once. If only I had a bob haircut. Sigh. Anyway, I think this shirt would be cute with of different pieces-something very important to me when I make a purchase-and I can't wait to wear it all summer long. I've put together some pieces I think would work nicely.
